Our centers are community based facilities dedicated to making your first appointment as comfortable as possible. Please do not hesitate to ask questions or voice concerns prior to your visit and our friendly staff will do its best to make you feel at ease. Our facility is wheelchair accessible and wheelchairs are available for patients on site.
On your first visit you will have what is called a comprehensive appointment with one of our oncologists. The oncologist will visit with you for an hour or more and will go over your diagnosis, what changes will occur, treatment options, and will answer any questions you may have. Some testing may be required during the comprehensive appointment. We are able to provide most tests on site for your convenience but on occasion if we are not able to accommodate the test, we will refer you to a trusted center. After your first visit we will set another appointment for you to learn and review your tests results and if required schedule you for chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
If you require treatment your physician will work with you to determine the best treatment plan. Our nurse navigator program will assign a nurse to you that will educate and explain the treatments you will be receiving and the side effects you may experience. Our nursing team will be available to answer any questions or concerns you may have. We want to ensure that you are completely comfortable and understanding of the treatment plan before you leave our facility.
Our physicians will make every effort to explain your initial diagnosis, your treatment plan and any other processes that are associated with your first visit. Most likely, chemotherapy and radiation therapy will be scheduled on a day different then your first visit. During your visit our physician may order several test to assist in making a comprehensive diagnosis. Once all the test results have been received, many times, the physician will request that you come back in for a follow up visit to fully discuss the results.
Our physician may order any of the following in your Initial Appointment:
• Laboratory testing: Done in house by our laboratory or sent to a trusted partner
• Radiology Testing: Mostly done in house or at the local hospital
• Meeting with a nurse to discuss questions or concerns
• Meeting with a financial counselor to discuss the insurance and benefits associated to the care that you will receive.
